 Mi Debilidad

Alih Jey is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter from the Dominican Republic. She cemented her place in rock and pop, being the first Dominican nominated for a Latin Grammy in  the category of Best Rock Solo Vocal Album for her album “Necia,” and even penned a hit song for Ricky Martin. She then began experimenting with other genres such as Latin folk. Her most recent album “Soy De Peña (in collaboration with the band Cuñao),” does just that, and is a tribute to her father Aníbal De Peña, who is considered an icon in Dominican musical history. “Mi Debilidad,” the first single from "Soy De Peña," was premiered on KCRW’s Pan Caliente and included on NPR’s Alt.Latino playlist after a glowing review.

Alih Jey grew up in a musical family and began singing in harmony at three years old with her parents and two sisters. At 14 she wrote “It’s Ok,” which got her signed to Universal Music Latino, and a position on Billboard’s Top 40. Alih then moved to Miami and recorded Alih Jey and Gotas De Piel with Universal. Billboard Magazine called her song Te Lo Debo a Ti “... one of the best female pop tracks in recent memory.” After cutting ties with the label, Alih recorded “Necia” independently, and received a Latin Grammy nomination. In 2010 Alih Jey moved to Los Angeles and focused more on songwriting. She won the BMI award in 2016 for co-writing Ricky Martin’s hit single “Adrenalina (Spanglish Version).” She’s also placed songs with other noted artists, like JLO, Gloria Trevi, Jarina De Marco, Paulina Rubio, Wisin, Ednita Nazario and Maite Perroni.

Alih Jey’s latest single Mi Debilidad, and new album Soy De Peña, have received positive reviews from platforms such as KCRW, NPR and other media outlets from both the US and the Dominican Republic. Alih Jey recently performed with Cuñao at SXSW 2019, Hola Mexico Film Festival, LA Pride and LA Food Fest. She opened up Raul Malo's tour across the West Coast, and played guitar and sang on Alejandra Guzman's Live at the Roxy album. “Soy De Peña” was produced by Cameron Bartolini and is now available everywhere.

"(Alih Jey) doesn't have to dig too far for authenticity: her father, Aníbal De Peña, is considered a folk music icon on the island..."Tú No Tienes La Culpa" is performed with her papi and is just the tip of the iceberg of an inspiring album full of reverential musical treasures."

"For those unfamiliar, Alih Jey has forged her own path, being the first Dominican musician to be nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Rock Solo Vocal Album...

With her tenacity and plenty of hype behind her, it’s possible she’ll also join the musical icon ranks with her father."

"The Dominican-born, Los Angeles-based singer is digging deep into her roots for her latest album, for which she teamed up with L.A. latin folk group, Cuñao, to pay tribute to her father and grandfather. Both are well known musicians in the Dominican Republic."

“Esta vez Alih Jey la refuerza ( Mi Debilidad) llevándola a lo visual con un trabajo dirigido por Ernesto Lomeli y Jarina De Marco, ofreciendo un material interesante, llevándolo a lo dramático y a veces a lo burlesco, y que por momentos nos remonta a la banda sonora de alguna telenovela de los años 70.”
